Over the next week you will be researching for and creating a document that will inform the public about a specific issue relating to religion. You will need to choose a specific focus that allows you to focus on multiple religions and investigate both primary and secondary sources. Overall your project must include sacred texts and multiple interpretations of these sources. You may use sources that we have studied together in class but must also locate sources of your own. As you find sources you must complete Source Analysis Sheets to document your findings. You are most likely to succeed on this project if you do not include your own religion but instead investigate other religions.
Overall summary of your learning from religion unit (focus on 2-3 general understandings).
1. That many religions, no matter how many differences they have, are always similar.
2. That people should try to understand other religions instead of judging on the spot.
3. There is a lot of discrimination between religions due to ignorance about them.
People should really try to learn about other religions and try to understand them before they judge. Throughout this unit I was hesitant to listen and learn about these different religions because they were not my own. As I opened my eyes and ears I saw that they are very similar and different at the same time.
Why did you choose this topic? What different things did you learn while researching and creating the project?
I chose this topic because throughout this unit on religion I noticed that many of the beliefs we were talking about were similar. People in the past and today do not realize that our religions are similar when you compare them, I wanted to prove that. I learned a bunch about Hinduism and Islam that I did not know before. That is another reason I wanted to do this topic because I wanted to prove to myself and to my friends that our religions are not as different as we thought.
How do you feel about the final product? What are its strengths and what are its weaknesses?
I am extremely proud with my final product, I think it is informative as well as professional looking. My strengths were my topic and how to compare them, my design, finding information and explaining it. My weaknesses were finishing the project and trying to understand what actually had to be in it.
